lightfae-deactivated20121206 asked: At this club, typically, the vendors get in for free. And they already have 2 belly dancers lol
lightfae-deactivated20121206 asked: "Looking more for a vendor, that understands the importance of showcasing her wares through performing with them throughout the night while vending, instead of someone expecting to vend, take full share, and get paid for performance." I'm a hooper (not a performer though, and a vendor). What are your thoughts on this message from a conversation I was having with an event promoter?...

What/who to avoid when trying to establish a...
It’s been a while since I’ve posted here, but I think I should write about some things I have experience with that might help others.
Sometimes, especially when you’re a newbie performer, you can’t wait to get into the scene and make contacts and professional relationships. You just want to get on the stage and you want to find people who want just what you do, and who...

Temple for Christchurch Fire Performance Director.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to direct one of the largest scale fire performances in New Zealand. In only 3 short months I have to round up a committee, bring in spinners from around the nation and choreograph a stunning routine that tells a story relative to the experiences people have had in Christchurch since the first earthquake in September. The Temple is huge so the performance has...

Oamaru was amazing! I’m so glad everything worked out in the end. We really didn’t make much money but we got some really amazing exposure and free and full range of two rooms of Victorian and period clothing while we busked!
We definitely have a good idea of what needs to happen when we go back and have people to contact for when we do. I got offered to perform at the Steampunk...

Review for Milly Wonka and the Burlesque Factory →
harlowlestrange:
“Veruca Salt (Harlow Le’strange) transforming from a prudish girl into a hula-hooping extraordinaire has to be seen to be believed.”
Excellent review on critic.co.nz for our Fringe Festival show!
Have just seen this! I was holding my breath the entire time; I’m so happy with this review ^_^

Dunedin Fringe Festival re-cap:
I always love going out of town with my troupe. Not only are they lovely ladies, but they’re a ton of fun as well and we get up to all kinds of mischief. This was different however as we had a full band, a chorus line, an MC, a new sound guy and a couple of other performers with us so it was a huge group. A couple of them went down to Dunedin on the Wednesday and their car broke down about...

Okay, so I’ve been a bit MIA for a while. The reason is that after stopping my hoop classes for a while I’ve had very little money come in and it’s made me feel a little low. I was trying to fight it for a long time, but I’ve started looking for a part time job. Last year I could only just make rent and bills and sometimes food, and that satisfied me because I was still...

Starting my trapeze training again tomorrow. I think I’ll be sticking to beginner classes until my strength has built up enough that I’m comfortable lifting myself into all the positions smoothly. I don’t want to push myself and I know that all the abdominal strength I have was gotten solely through what I did with trapeze last year.
As well as that, my flatmate is taking...
argentinajournal asked: Hey, what's up! Just wanted to say you have a tight blog going! I'd like to maybe use some of your stuff, hope that's OK. Just followed you. I'm almost at my follower goal, please help me if you can.
I also successfully did the splits on the weekend! Granted, I had someone slowly push down on my shoulders but at least I know the flexibility is there ^_^

Okay, I have so much to write about! But I’ll save that for when I get home. For now just let it be known that Hoopfest was amazing and I can’t wait for next year. Only a small handful of photos are lurking around at the moment so here are a couple..
Fire hooping!
And teaching people the floor pretzel in my workshop!
More to come ;D

I’ve been MIA but I promise for updates soon! I’m just about to shut my laptop and head off to the very first New Zealand hoop festival where I’m teaching burlesque hoop! First time unveiling this workshop so I’m very nervous. Apart from that when I get back my fire collective is getting interviewed for Avenues Magazine and I’m very privileged to have the opportunity...

I have a relatively quiet week ahead of me until Thursday. I’m pretty excited to be going to Oamaru with the Staff Guru Collective and holding day long workshops followed by fire spinning and drumming in the evening.
Little known fact: I sometimes partake in paranormal investigations.
It sounds strange, I know. And you’re probably a little skeptical, but it’s okay because I am...

I’ve just come back from my holiday in my hometown. Whilst I was there I taught a successful hoop workshop at the amazing Juggler’s Rest in Picton and managed to sell a few hoops. I’ll definitely be going back as everyone was so enthusiastic and wanting to learn more. It was exciting being able to bring my workshop to such a small region. I remember growing up there; there was...

Obligatory introductory post.
Hey all, my name is Harlow and I’m starting this blog to record the events in my life relevant to performing and such that goes with it. I really wanted to do this because I’m hoping to really push myself this year and I have a lot of goals I want to achieve and keeping a public record of it all will only fuel me more.
so a little about myself…
(that’s a wig) I’m...
